Garden of Eden in the heart of Norwood
If you are looking to stay close to nature but without having to compromise on travel time to Adelaide CBD, then here’s a unique opportunity.
Most mornings Louise and Joseph Laurendi wake up to the sounds of a kookaburra or the burbling of the First Creek flowing past their property on 19 Gertrude St.
Their four-bedroom home in the heart of Norwood is full of character and is nestled in lush green surroundings.
“When you are home, it’s hard to tell that you are so close to the city,” Mr Laurendi said.
“It’s one of the few homes next to the First Creek which hasn’t been concretised over and still boasts of the native fauna.
“The greenery is very soothing and we have occasional koala sightings too.”
Charmed by the generous space both inside and outside the home, the couple bought the home 14 years ago after having spent two decades in Sydney.
Built in 1915, the home still features original pine floorboards, tall ceilings and a unique statement staircase.
Over the years, the couple have done a “considerable refresh” on the home, including renovating the bathrooms, adding in a substantial entertaining area, deck, fireplace and adding to the wraparound gardens.
“This house is ideal for a large family and perfect for entertaining. We have hosted many anniversaries and birthday parties. It’s even featured in wedding photo shoots,” Mr Laurendi said.
“We had our first grandchild recently and we are keen to move to the western suburbs to be closer to the family.”
Presented to market by Ray White Norwood’s Ryan Stapleton and Rajwant Singh, the house boasts of multiple living spaces. But the heart of the home is the open plan kitchen which features huge breakfast bar as well as a walk-in pantry.
While the master bedroom and ensuite are on the ground floor, there are three spacious bedrooms on the home’s upper level. There are many areas in the home to take in the views of the gardens.
An additional study room with a fireplace offers direct access to the outdoor space as well.
“Overall, it’s a very relaxing space,” Mr Laurendi said.
The property is set to go to auction on June 3.
