Keemo Paul is a Guyanese professional cricketer who has represented the West Indies in all 3 formats of the sport (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is), as a bowling all-rounder. Before breaking into the senior national team in all 3 formats in the same year (2018), he was an integral member of the West Indian squad at the 2016 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup. He was one of the stars of the tournament, helping the West Indies win the tournament for the first time in history. He took 7 wickets in the tournament (including 2 in the final against tournament favorites India), scored 166 runs at an average of more than 40 runs per innings across the tournament, and hit the winning runs in the final match of the tournament. In the Caribbean domestic circuit, he has played for his home country of Guyana (2016–Present) across all 3 formats. Keemo Paul Facts

Although Keemo played a starring role in the West Indies’ title triumph at the 2016 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup, one act of his during the team’s final group stage match against Zimbabwe caused controversy.

Zimbabwe and the West Indies went into that match tied at 2 points apiece and the match was a virtual knockout. The winner would progress to the quarter-final while the loser would be relegated to the plate section (where teams would be competing for 9th to 16th positions) of the tournament.

In the last over of that match, Keemo ‘mankaded’ (the act of running out the non-striking batsman who has left his crease before the bowler has delivered the ball) an opposition batsman. West Indies went on to win the tightly contested match by just 2 runs, consequently finishing 2nd in the group, and qualifying for the quarter-final.

Although some commentators and fans went easy on him, considering his age, the act received a lot of negative press as ‘mankading’ a batsman is still a taboo subject in the cricket fraternity and is often considered against the ‘spirit of the game’ even though the laws of cricket do not forbid it.

In June 2018, he was named the ‘Emerging Cricketer of the Year’ at the annual Cricket West Indies Awards. In October 2018, Cricket West Indies awarded him a development contract for the 2018–19 season.

In December 2018, in the 3rd and final T20I of the West Indies’ bilateral away series against Bangladesh, Keemo recorded his first 5-wicket haul (5/15 in 4 overs) in T20Is. This was just the 27th instance of a player achieving this rare feat in T20I cricket.

In August 2019, he was named the ‘T20 Player of the Year’ by Cricket West Indies (CWI), the governing body for cricket in the West Indies (a sporting confederation of over a dozen mainly English-speaking Caribbean countries and dependencies that once formed the British West Indies).
