Riccardo Germanetto Obituary, Death – It is with heavy hearts that we share the somber news of the passing of our beloved Father Richard. On November 13, 2023, at approximately 2 pm in Barcelona, Spain, Very Reverend Father Riccardo Germanetto CRS completed his earthly journey and began his eternal one.

Father Richard, a man of unwavering faith and dedication, devoted his life to serving God and humanity with boundless love, compassion, and guidance. He was a pillar of strength for all who sought his counsel, an unending source of inspiration, and a cherished father and friend to those fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Father Richard played an integral role in the establishment of the Somascan Fathers Mission in Nigeria.

Where he touched the lives of many. In Nigeria, he served as the post-novice master from 2012 until 2019, and from 2019 until 2023, he took on the role of novice master. His contributions to the spiritual development of Nigerian Somascan priests and religious were immeasurable. Every Nigerian Somascan priest and religious can trace their formation journey through his guidance and mentorship.

Father Richard’s missionary journey began over 50 years ago when he was ordained, and he was initially posted to Spain. There, he began his lifelong mission of service to God and humanity. He continued this journey in the Philippines, demonstrating love, compassion, and unwavering dedication. At the age of 72, Father Richard accepted a new challenge, coming to Nigeria to join fellow religious in initiating the Nigerian mission.

During his years in Nigeria, he left an indelible mark by nurturing the vocations of many. He was instrumental in the formation of 14 priests, 4 deacons, and 20 religious in the region. Dearest beloved, as we navigate this challenging time, let us come together to offer support and strength to one another.
